MILAN
  
The movie “Road to Santiago” will be screened for free on November 6 in Appiano Gentile and on November 13 in Magenta. The movie wants to stimulate a reflection on the theme of the pilgrimage and faith during the year dedicated to it. Everyone is invited, especially young people.

Torreciudad Shrine
On Monday, October 29, the shrine Torreciudad was presented at the Cinema Teatro Colosseo in Milan, with the presence of Card. Juliàn Herranz, José Marìa Gorgojo and Bruno Mastroianni. For more information about the shrine visit http://www.torreciudad.org/

The National Office for the Pastoral Care of Leisure, Tourism and Sport, in collaboration with the Regional
Commission of Lombardy and the Diocese of Milan, will organize the "First Course for guides in the places of the Faith" which will begin in Milan on November 9th 2012.


On October 11 and 13 as well as on December 7, the choral programme of sacred music in shrine comes back for the seventeenth year. The event is organized by the Schola Cantorum "ARS NOVA" with the Parish of SS. Cornelius and Cyprian and the Department of Culture of the city of Cerro Maggiore.


The publication of the book has among all its tasks not only the preservation of the monument but also the transmission to future generations of the cultural heritage related to it.


In the former Pozzi area of Corsico along the “Naviglio Grande”, Sunday, September 30, was a day entirely dedicated to the bicycle for the launch of the new cycling park of Navigli.

  
WORLD


UPCOMING EVENTS…


The International Tourism Fair takes place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, from October 31 to November 2. Several exhibitors from over 30 countries have the opportunity to promote their tourism resources among the travel trade professionals and consumers in Tashkent area.


On November 6 the World Tourism Organization will work in partnership with World Travel Market in order to organize the Summit that will take place in London with the aim to bring together Tourism Ministers and leading tourism experts.


On the occasion of the World Responsible Tourism Day and the activities taking place at the World Travel Market 2012 (London, 5-8 November 2012), UNWTO would like to invite you to join in the event on “Green Innovation in Tourism: enhancing competitiveness and reducing costs” (8 November, 2012) with the objective to discuss to what extent tourism can sustain its responsible growth through innovative practices aiming at reducing its negative impact.


From 14th to 16th November a summit on city tourism will take place in Istanbul, Turkey. The summit aims to bring together the UNWTO members and other important stakeholders from the private and public sectors  in order to discuss the new challenges and opportunities for city tourism.


Sarhan, a young photographer and citizen of the Gaza strip, curates an exhibition with pictures of the land where he was born and grew up. The exhibition is hosted by the Yabous cultural centre of Eastern Jerusalem.


The Year of Faith in Guinea-Bissau officially began on Saturday, October 13 in Bissau. The solemn celebration that marked the opening of the Year of Faith was held in the Cathedral of Bissau and it was presided over by the Bishop of Bissau, His Exc. Mgr. José Camnate na Bissign. Faith is also the main theme of the national pilgrimage to the Shrine of Cacheu which will take place on December 8.


The “International Day for the Rights of Disabled People” falls on December 3 as established by the “World Programme of Action Concerning Disabled People” adopted in 1982 by the General Assembly of the United Nations. The event aims to promote the spread of themes related to disability in order to awaken public opinion to concepts of dignity, rights and welfare of disabled people by increasing the awareness of the benefits that may arise from the integration of disabilities with every aspect of social life.


For the first time after Rome 2008 and Cracow 2011, the Divine Mercy Congress will take place outside Europe in Bogotà where Colombian bishops and the Congress President, the Cardinal Schönborn, are waiting for a large number of participants coming from all over the world.


…PAST EVENTS


The conference which took place on October 18 and 19 in Yerevan, Armenia, was an opportunity to discuss the importance of sustainable tourism as a driver which is able to promote tolerance, intercultural understanding and mutual respect between nations, while preserving their core cultural values.


The World Tourism Organization in collaboration with the Tanzanian Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism hosted a conference which took place from 15th to 18th October. The aim was to encourage professional approach to better position “park tourism” as a core element of overall national park management in Africa.


The statue measures 10 metres, it weighs three tons and is situated in a Christian Syro-Malankara college of Trivandrum in Kerala. Made of fibre, wax and resin and covered with white marble, the statue has eyes which glow in the dark.


The conference, which took place from 15th to 18th October in Hangzou, was an opportunity for UNWTO Member States in the Asia Pacific Region to share trends and strategies in MICE development and to discuss the findings of the recently completed study about MICE tourism in Asia.


From 7th to 12th October the World Family of Radio Maria organized the 5th World Conference which took place at the “Santuario Amore Misericordioso” of Collevalenza in Perugia.
The event was attended by all the 63 Radio Maria that are currently working around the world.


Launched on September 30 with the reading of Genesis, the initiative ended on October 6 with the last passages of Revelation. The event was celebrated at the Marian Shrine of Mariamabad in Punjab. 300 followers of different faiths attended the first day of the Bible Marathon 2012.

On October 4 the National Tourism Authority of DPR Korea hosted a workshop with the aim to enhance the competitiveness of DPR Korea as a tourism destination by improving the ability of tourism marketing professionals of the country.


The Congress of Maria Ausiliatrice took place for the first time in Argentina at the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lujan from 21st  to 24th September. The symposium, promoted by Maria Ausiliatrice Association, was attended by over 400 members of the Salesian Family.



EUROPE


UPCOMING EVENTS…


An extensive and in depth training course takes place in Germany from October 21 to November 2. The aim is to introduce the methods and concepts concerning biodiversity, marketing and communication. The integration of biodiversity into tourism development is also an important training element.


From 1st to 9th November a group of European pilgrims will follow an itinerary in Holy Land which includes several stops in some of the most famous crusader Castles in the region in addition to visiting the traditional Holy Places. The group will be led by Franco Cardini, a Florentine famous historian, and by father Stefano De Luca Ofm, archaeologist of Franciscan Biblical Study in Jerusalem.

PAST EVENTS


The Congress took place on October 8 and 9 in Piatra Neamt, Romania. It brought together entrepreneurs, public and private authorities as well as professionals involved in rural tourism in order to discuss and think about the new trends concerning this important activity.


The European University of Rome in collaboration with the Fiavet Lazio, has set up for the academic year 2012-2013, a 1st Level Master in Tourism Enterprise Management in order to train experts in the management and organization of tourism businesses.


“The Rosary is the school of faith” is the theme of the Congress of the Rosary of the Archdiocese of Czestochowa which took place on Saturday, October 6 at the Shrine of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Myszków Mrzyglód. The congress was attended by groups of the Living Rosary and the different groups of the Missionary Rosary.


September 30 was a special Sunday for the small village of Verzej, beside the River of Mura, where the great Pannonian plain begins. The village celebrated 100 years of Salesian presence at the Salesian Institute “Marianum”.


ITALY


UPCOMING EVENTS…


From October 6 onwards, on the first Saturday of every month a Marian pilgrimage is scheduled in the symbolic places of devotion to Mary which are present in the Diocese of Venice together with the Patriarch Msgr. Francesco Moraglia.


The history of Roman civilization told in an unprecedented exhibition. Statues, artifacts, posters and coins are on display from October 10 between the Coliseum and the Roman Forum until March 10. Furthermore, the stables of the Quirinal host an exhibition with paintings of Vermeer.

From 15th to 18th November, at the Exhibition Center Ariston of Paestum, the Mediterranean Exchange for Archaeological Tourism will take place.


The Apostolic Palace of Loreto will host until January 27, 2013 the exhibition “John XXIII pilgrim to Loreto and Assisi”. The exhibition, which is set up in the “Cantine del Bramante”, is a tribute that the Holy House of Loreto offers to the memory of John XXIII for the 50th anniversary of the pilgrimage to Loreto and Assisi.


The activity of the Italian Touring Club for young people is inspired by the conviction that the practice of tourism is really important for the process of civic and cultural growth as well as for the realization of an educational project.


ENIT is planning to organise at least 20 workshops abroad in Moscow, Beijing, Shanghai and Los Angeles in order to promote Italy’s tourist image. Meanwhile, ENIT plans to participate in the major travel fairs in emerging areas like Brazil, Mexico and the Ukraine.



PAST EVENTS


On Friday, October 19, the book "Touch the divine. The curious case of the pilgrimage to St. Anthony " was presented in Padua by Alessandro Castegnaro, director of the magazine “Messaggero di Sant’Antonio”. This eagerly awaited book is the result of a survey carried out among the pilgrims to the Basilica of St. Anthony during the exposition of the Saint’s body.


As usual, on Sunday, October 14, the Orange Flags Day took place in 100 different locations, each of which arranged guided tours, tastings, activities and free events for everyone.


The event took place on October 11 in the area purposely set up in Piazza Città of Lombardy. A real sports village which showed several disciplines and demonstrations performed by disabled athletes.


On Sunday, October 7, in the Chapel of the parish located in the Laurentino district, the relic of John Paul II was exhibited with an opening ceremony presided over by Cardinal Bertello.



The third edition of TrE Tourism Real Estate which took place from 3rd to 5th October at the Passenger Terminal of Venice harbour, aimed to build new plans of tourism enhancement and development of the territory.


On October 4, Pope Benedict XVI made pastoral visit to Loreto. With this visit the Holy Father wanted also to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Blessed Pope John XXIII’s visit to the Marian shrine of the city.


Each year on the first Sunday of October, the “Rosario Fiorito Procession” takes place. This is how it has been called by Walser. During this two-hour walking procession, the faithful sing and pray walking through several mountain trails. The procession ends with Mass and the “Te Deum”.


On October 3, the Salesian Community in the Vatican celebrated the 75th anniversary of presence.


On October 2, the Lombard Episcopal Conference presided over by Cardinal Angelo Scola met at the “Centro di Spiritualità” of Caravaggio Shrine. During this meeting Monsignor Roberto Busti, bishop of Mantua, illustrated the serious situation of the places of worship of his Diocese.


Thinking about the prospects that sustainable tourism may offer as a contrast to the crisis of the European economic system was the leitmotiv of the 33rd Tourism Day celebrated on September 29 and 30 in Campobasso under the theme “Tourism and Sustainable Energy”. As stated by Msgr. Mario Lusek, director of the National Office for the Pastoral Care of Tourism, Leisure and Sport, it was an opportunity to propose and learn new lines that tourism may follow.


Marco Deambrogio, a famous “traveller by motorbike” who has carried out legendary achievements around the world, tells an extraordinary episode that has changed his life.


On Saturday, September 29, at the Museum of St. Francesco of Montefalco of Perugia, the book “Pilgrimage: The Journey of Life” was presented by father Caesar Atuire, head of the Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, published by Fivestore.


On September 29 – anniversary of the saint – at 3.30 pm at the “Sala Baronale” of Orsini Castle of Castel Madama, it was presented to the public, and especially to local people, the banner of St. Michael the Archangel which has been recently restored and placed in a display cabinet.

On September 27, at the Department of Regional Affairs, Tourism and Sport, the Minister Piero Gnudi presented the 33rd World Tourism Day which this year is dedicated to themes concerning the sustainability of the travel and tourism industry.

La "Madonna che scioglie i nodi" c'è pure a Lainate!

L’acqua calda è già stata trovata. Lo so. Ma sentirselo ricordare è sempre salutare. In questo blog, ad esempio, avevo associato recentemente la figura di papa Francesco col quadro della Madonna che scioglie i nodi. Un’opera fino ad allora a me sconosciuta e che subito mi ha preso. Donne nude di una tribù trattate come animali da circo. E' polemica

Siamo nelle Isole Andaman, in India. Un video (pubblicato dal sito dell'Observer) mostra delle donne di una tribù primitiva protetta che danzano per i turisti in cambio di cibo (oppure dopo bicchieri di vino versati da un poliziotto per il quale avevano dato spettacolo). Il video ha provocato la collera dei movimenti umanitari e ha determinato l'apertura di un'inchiesta. Buon Natale, nucleo famigliare!

La Natività  (olio su tela, 50×40 cm) di Julio Padrino.  Dipinto realizzato in occasione della 45a rappresentazione del presepe vivente di Cerqueto (2011).   È una scena intima, realistica, questa di Padrino. Quasi una fotografia. Le figure sono proporzionate e non interscambiabili. Il padre non fa capolino dalla cornice, ma partecipa a pieno titolo nel quadro.
